Sanneta Myrie wins MJW talent competition

CONTESTANT Sanneta Myrie emerged winner of the Miss Jamaica World (MJW) Panasonic Talent Fast Track Competition held at the Fiction Fantasy Night Club in St Andrew, on Friday.

Myrie, who wears the sash Evergrow Garden Centre, was one of 18 competing for a first top 15 finalist spot in the Grand Coronation slated for Montego Bay Convention Center in St James, on August 15.

From dance pieces, art and music, poetry and karate exhibitions, the contestants served the very packed venue some valuable entertainment. However, none was able to overpower Myrie’s well-choreographed piece to Damian Marley’s Move, which featured a voice-over Mutabaruka’s Dis Poem.

“The talent competition, I thought demonstrated how beautifully diverse the batch of ladies in the competition are… a diversity of passions and talents and to have my piece selected as the winning piece was both exhilarating and humbling,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

“My piece was centred on one of my passions, that of our roots and story as a people. I think that’s why it was selected as the top piece as the audience found it relatable and could identify with it,” she continued.

Miss Nargia’s Beauty Experience, Cavel Campbell, was second place. She delivered a dance piece entitled The Way I Feel while third place went to Miss Klip Extreme, Suchelis Rhodd, who did a classical selection.

Rounding off the Top 5 were Miss Future Energy Source, Royanne DeSilva, and Miss Spa Aesthetique, Krystal Tomlinson.

The Miss Jamaica World Pageant provides an opportunity to develop the contestants into well-rounded individuals, and the fast-track competitions foster this development.

The other fast-track events are the Miss Jamaica World Sports, Top Model, and Beauty with a Purpose competition. All winners will advance to the Top 15.

The Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty competition will be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston, on Sunday.
