Miss Jamaica World 2014 To Include Reality TV Series – Auditions For Pageant Begins
Another lucky young Jamaican will soon have the opportunity of wearing the prestigious Miss Jamaica World crown. The event’s launch, which was held at the Cru Restaurant and Bar, pre-empts the 38th staging of the event.
Joined by sponsors, partners, committee members, former beauty queens, organisers Fusion Consulting Limited headed by Laura Butler, the launch spoke of another potentially exciting pageant which has gained the knack for producing some of the nation’s most outstanding women.
Butler told The Gleaner that several new initiatives would be undertaken to make this year’s staging even more memorable.
“Flow 100 being able to go live and the introduction of the text line to get the public involved are just some of the new initiatives that we’ve put in place. Also, the People’s Choice that The Gleaner will bring back, as well as the reintroduction of the text voting with Digicel to get the public involved again, is something everyone can really look forward to,” she said.
The pageant, which has as part of its objective to further the development and growth of young Jamaican women, through education, training, community development and exposure, is open to single female Jamaicans, either by birth or parentage, from the ages of 17 to 26.
In aid of this, several corporate sponsors, including University College of the Caribbean (UCC), Stewart Motors and Flow Jamaica, have confirmed support for the 2014 pageant.
Prospective contestants for this year’s staging will be selected from three auditions scheduled for today, May 17 and 24 at the Spartan Health Club.
Following the auditions, county shows will be held. The eliminations will then be hosted at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on May 31.
GRAND PRIZES
The winner of Miss Jamaica World 2014 will take home $15 million in prizes, including a motor car leased for one year from Stewart’s Motors (Suzuki), a scholarship from the UCC, and $200,000 cash.
Sectional prizes will be awarded in categories, including ‘Best Skin Tone’, ‘Best Legs’, ‘Best Smile and Figure’, ‘Most Aware and Congenial’ and a new category ‘Beauty in Business’.
Yet another new initiative being introduced is the reality series aspect of the pageant.
“We are very excited about this. It will give us an opportunity to invite the public to really see the hard work, commitment, dedication and sacrifice the girls have put in towards something that is amazing. This will also give us an opportunity to give the sponsors and partners more exposure for branding as well,” Butler said.
The charities to benefit from this year’s pageant are McCam Child Care and Development Centre, STEP, the St Patrick’s Foundation, School for the Deaf, and Missionaries of the Poor.
The Grand Coronation will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on July 12.
