Great designs for Miss Jamaica

The Gleaner showed a few pieces in Flair Magazine, perhaps one of the best overall collections we have ever seen for a Miss Jamaica. It is good to see Jamaican designers creating such spectacular pieces, the type you would normally see on runways in some of the major fashion capitals around the world. We are indeed quite talented.

It is also good to see the Miss Jamaica organisation showcasing such a wide variety of local designers through the Miss World event. The few designs shown in the Flair were obviously well thought out, well made, and even the choice of fabric looked rich, and complemented the look and personality of the Queen as well as the location (and climate) in London.

Our fashion industry has major potential internationally. The designers shown in the wardrobe show included Keneea Linton-George, Kurt Campbell, Arlene Martina, André Shirley and Toya Taylor, among others.

I look forward to seeing all the pieces during the Miss World event, which begins officially this week and ends with the crowning on December 14. Despite the recent mishap, with the theft of Miss Jamaica’s crown (unbelievable that thieves are now stealing crowns), this bit of news about our Jamaican talent is encouraging.
