MJW hopefuls sashed at Sovereign Centre
Ahead of the September 10th Miss Jamaica World Coronation show, the top 20 finalists have a series of events that they have to participate in before one is chosen as MJW 2011. One such event is the sashing and public parade which took place at the Sovereign Centre on Saturday last. Commencing a few minutes after the announced noon start time, each top 20 finalist started of the days festivities by parading in the casual wear segment with summery dresses provided by TNT fashions. The audience was very receptive to the girls as they made their way onto the 3rd floor overlooking the rest of the court. Scream, cheers, noise makers, you name it, were used to show some love and support towards each girl. After parading in the casual wear segment to choreography by image consultant and walking coach, Damian Shaw, MC’s for the days proceedings Adrian Atkinson and Denise Hunt treated the members of the audience to trivia giveaways courtesy of the pageant’s sponsors such as Maybelline, Soft-sheen Carson and Venus Embrace. The giveaways added even more excitement to the parade as the patrons were totally immersed allowing the ladies time to change into their swimwear for the highly-anticipated swimsuit segment. One by one they made their way down several flights of stairs smiling and greeting their supporters donning swimsuits courtesy of The Mushroom. Following the individual parade and the group parade the contestants were sashed. Eight of the 20 girls were pre-selected and so they were sashed first. The remaining 12 contestants were entered into a lottery draw conducted by Supreme Ventures where each sponsor held a number that corresponded with the contestant number of each girl.
