Miss Neutrogena Chantel Davis after winning the talent fast track competition

Despite Saturday’s inclement weather, the Miss Jamaica World Talent fast track competition liven the spirits of those in attendance at The Spartan Health Club Wellness and Recreational Centre. Eight finalists of the twenty contestants were slated to take the stage to display their talents in hopes of gaining a slot in the top 10 on coronation night. After an evening of riveting performances, Miss Neutrogena Chantel Davis came out on top as the winner. Rene Harris, Miss Tru Juice placed second and Chavoy Gordon, Miss Appleton Jamaica placed third.
Minutes after 8pm the event commenced when MC’s Denise Hunt and Adrian Atkinson invited the pageant ladies to the stage, nicely decked in fashions by Xing Designs. There after members of the audience were given the opportunity to win prizes and then later introduced to the first performer of the night, Hezron. For a second time the 20 contestants returned to the stage, this time to parade in swimwear by The Mushroom. Next the headline act of the show, songstress Alaine Laughton graced the stage. Attired in a figure-hugging mini, she unraveled hits from her repertoire as the patrons sang along enthusiastically, especially to “You Are Me” seemingly the crowd favorite. A lucky male from the audience was summoned on stage to be serenaded by the sweet notes of her song “No Ordinary Love”. Following this, it was finally time for the much anticipated talent competition to begin.
First up was contestant number 1, Chavoy Gordon who recited a dramatic poem entitled “Who Am I.” Garbrielle Blackwood was up with her ballet piece. The violinist Paula-Kay Beswick followed. She started her performance introducing herself in sign language and then went straight into her violin rendition of Bob Marley’s “Jammin”. Miss True Juice, Rene Harris did a dance medley that went over well with the patrons. Danielle Crosskill did an art piece while reciting a poem entitled “My Jamaica”.
Miss Osmosis Kayla Mendes did a very powerful dance piece as a tribute to cancer patients and survivors. On another note, Lisa Williams, Miss Dunns Electrical provided the most humor for the night. Her singing and acting piece was entitled “Woman Unleashed” which told the story of a battered woman who sought vengeance from her abuser through death. Chantel Davis channeled the Middle East as she performed a captivating belly dance piece that was thrilling to the audience. She was garbed in a blue revealing number that she designed to reflect the culture of the dance piece.
While the judges deliberated who would be the top three talents, the audience was provided with a diversion compliments of the legendary John Holt. Patrons left the Spartan Health Club very pleased with the judges’ selection of the top 3.
