Suzuki Miss Jamaica World Hopefuls Gear Up For Eliminations on June 15
Kingston, Jamaica: With just a few days remaining before the Suzuki Miss Jamaica World (MJW) Beauty Pageant contestant entry cut off date, MJW organisers are upbeat about the calibre of preliminary contestants. Entries for the 37th staging close on Wednesday, June 12 ahead of the elimination show on Saturday, June 15.

Our country should be proud to know that our nation still possesses not just beautiful young ladies, but intelligent well spoken and talented individuals who are passionate about giving back to their communities and making a meaningful contribution to their country.”
The global competition which further enforces the pageant’s ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ tagline will take place on September 28, at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia. Local Miss World hopefuls are encouraged to be prepared mentally, physicaly and emotionally and be self motivated, polite and graceful. Above all, contestants should be knowledgeable and able to speak confidently.
The winner of the 2013 pageant will drive home a brand new Suzuki Kizashi valued at J$4.55M as well as a prize package valued at JA$500,000 courtesy of Nirvana Magazine. Among the other incentives for this year’s 20 finalists are an intense training package from Fusion Consulting Limited valued at JA$2M as well as full educational scholarships with a total value of J$5M. Degrees will be offered through University College of the Caribbean, University of London and Kursk State Medical University.
Nicole Baxter-Murray, Franchise Holder of the Middlesex County Pageant since 2001 shares “It’s not just about beauty or physical attributes. Our Miss World hopefuls should be of good character and definitely convey confidence. Baxter-Murray won the 1993 Middlesex regional finals and placed second overall behind the current Minister of Youth & Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna, who went on to win the global competition in that year.
Baxter-Murray also explains that her experience in the 1993 pageant has helped her in her current profession as Insurance & Financial Advisor. “For me personally, when I entered Miss Jamaica, nobody could have told me that I could walk in a bikini and stand in front of a microphone. But with rehearsal and the support that the pageant offers in terms of grooming, speech and deportment – everyone has a fair chance. In my current job, I do a lot of presentations and my training has really assisted me.”
The official sashing of the ladies of the Middlesex and Cornwall County Pageants took place on May 22 in Mandeville and Montego Bay respectively. Much deliberation is taking place among the 17 to 25 age faction which is the group eligible to participate.
The winners of the regional finals on June 8 and 13 will earn an automatic spot in the finals of the National Grand Coronation Show on July 21 set to take place at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
